Season cancellation, refund process, volunteer opportunities

We hope this communication finds you safe, healthy and throwing the ball around!

It is with a heavy heart to inform you that we, as a Board and as a League, have decided to cancel the 2020 WWAA Baseball and Softball Season.

Lots of dedicated Board members, virtual meetings, weekly discussions, information, surveys and guidance came in to play in making this decision. With the restrictions that came out, the layout of our fields, and your responses, it was not possible to keep everyone safe or to have the capacity to offer a successful 2020 Season.

We want to say thank you to everyone for your patience during this uncharted time. We really want to thank everyone that took the time to fill out the survey questions. Your feedback was very helpful and confirmed what the Board had been discussing. Over 76% of you do not want to play and/or do not want to take the risk of being quarantined or miss work.

While it will be tough to hear the silence and see the fields empty this season, we want you to know that WWAA remains very strong with our history and your support. We have been offering Baseball and Softball to children since 1962 and we want to continue that in the years to come! Almost 80% of your offered up a portion of your fees for donation back to the League. That's amazing! THANK YOU!

Even though our 2020 season has an asterisk and we can't play ball, we, as a board, would like to take this time to improve our fields. We take pride in having a beautiful place to play ball! We work very closely with the Foundation every year to make sure we can offer every child a chance to play if they want to join a team. So, this summer, we want to work on some improvement projects. Some ideas include a new roof on the concession stand, a metal equipment shed to house maintenance equipment, smooth out access roads, dugout repairs, possible new sports equipment shed (container), batting cages, possible playground, maybe even looking at updating the bathrooms, etc.

We are meeting June 9th via zoom to put an action plan together for the projects. If you, as an individual (or family,) would like to help out, volunteer, or have talent, please let us know. If you own or know of a business that would like to donate funds or sponsor a particular project, please let us know.

Again, our hearts wanted to play this season, however it was not in the forecast. This 2020 season is officially canceled. A refund will be available. Please see below.

REFUND NOTES:

You must fill out the below form by Sunday May 31st. The sooner you fill it out, the sooner your refund will be in the mail.

 https://forms.gle/w7QB5HBCLManiiiC8

The link is also on our home page.

1. We signed up everyone electronically this year and we wanted to refund the same way. HOWEVER, we found out that we only had a 90 day grace period to refund it back that way and so we will now have to manually issue 300-350 checks. PLEASE ALLOW 3-4 WEEKS for your refund check to arrive.

2. With 80% of you offering a donation to help cover some of our operating expenses, the form has a few refund options for you: a full refund, 80% refund*, 100% donation to the league, or a set dollar amount over $25. THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!

*Partial refunds are based on Paid Fees to the league. (Player fees, Cashed/charged Volunteer Checks, Hats, Decals, etc.) It does not include any transaction fees by the online payment system. We will Void any other volunteer checks that are pending or post marked July 1 2020.

3. If you fail to fill out the form by May 31st, you will be defaulted to the 80% refund option and mailed a check in June.

We really want to say thank you, again, to everyone! The Board Members, The Coaches, Parents, and Players. Lets' not forget the Sponsors, Fans and Grandparents! WE HAVE AN AWESOME LEAGUE!!!

If you would like to help us plan for 2021, please reach out to us via our web site and Contact Us page. We can always use more help! We hope 2021 will be better, but we may have to have more task force groups and/or small committees. Please consider joining our WWAA Board to help keep Baseball and Softball available for all youth in the years to come!

We will continue to monitor the events over the next several months and will plan accordingly for the 2021 WWAA Season! We want to wish everyone the best and will see you on the field next year! Keep throwing the ball around!
